The nervous system is essential to functioning in day to day life because it is responsible l for detecting our environment and how we respond to it. There are two main parts of the nervous system. The central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system extends across the entire body and is made of interconnected bundles of nerves. These nerves send signals to the central nervous system so that your brain can figure out how to interpret the world around you. Your nervous system is responsible for reactions such as the classic fight or flight response.
